Hi all! Sorry I am a few days late with my post this week, but to make up for it I have a very important topic to talk about. With it being harder than ever to pay for college many students are wondering if they should attend a community college for two years to save money and then transfer. This isĀ a very personal decision however, there are some definite pros and cons.
Pros of going to a community college for two years:
- You will save a significant amount of money. Community colleges cost a lot less than private colleges and even state schools. You will also save money by living at home rather than on a campus or in an apartment near campus.
- Most of the courses for your major are completed during junior and senior years so you will be able to take them at the college that you transfer to.
- Many community colleges have a plan in place that helpsĀ ensure that you take the best classes for a smooth transition.
- You will have more time to complete your college search and decide on a degree program.
Cons of going to a community college for two years:
- You will miss out on a lot of the experiences that come with the first couple years of living on a campus.
- Since you might not know which school you will end up at you will not necessarily be able to complete all of the freshman and sophomore prerequisites that you will need to graduate after you transfer.
- You will have less interaction with your fellow students. It is typically harder to get to know people at community colleges.

Go to a four year college. It is easier that way
Very interesting information.
my mom did this to save money but said it was hard to come in junior year
i think you should try to make up your mind and try not to wasteyour time in a community college. for example myself, i dont expect to be perfect but i am trying to go to DeVry university and just go staright into what i want without wasting time.
YES YES YES! This is the best idea to do because you find what you want to do without wasting money by first going to the wrong school for something you thought you liked at 17 years old and save loads of cash.
If ots cheaper than go to community college
I think if community college is cheaper than you should go!
I think starting out at a community college would be great if you want to save money and you don’t want your school to be big and crowded.
This is exactly what I’m doing. I’m attending a community college because its convenient and a whole lot cheaper, but I definitely want to go to a bigger college our university when I’m ready to. I don’t think missing out socially would be such a bad thing if you could save a significant amount of money.
I think that starting off at a community college a good decision. It costs less and allows you to keep an open mind. so that way if you want to change your career path you can without paying a arm and a leg for it.
Well, it may be a good idea for some, but I already know what I want to do with my education. Going into it already knowing how many years it will take and the necessary courses, I can get things done more quickly and avoid the hassle of transfering.
I went to CC for summer school–it was so much better–and cheaper
where there is a will, there is a way community college lets you get back into the academic picture without you paying and then saying, “Oh God, what have I done!”
Yes I think it is a good idea.
Is it hard to get money for school…what steps do I have to take?
What are the top colleges for political science? And is it hard to get money for college
That’s what I did, I went to community college for a couple years and now I’m at a 4 year college.
Money wise, I’m a lot better off than the students around me who are having to skip semesters because they can’t afford the classes.
I think it would be cheaper too, but as you said you will lose the experince
I think it would be smart and cheaper but time consuming
I totally agree with you.
Great advice; a community college will save you tons of money!! Take it from me especially if you think you may one day want to go to grad school!!
Great Advice!!
