Happy Friday everyone! I bet you thought you weren’t going to hear from me this week! Today I want to talk about a subject that affects both high school juniors and high school seniors: AP classes.
High school has become extremely competitive and more students are taking on college level Advanced Placement (AP) classes. What is the point of these classes you ask? Well AP classes have two major benefits; they can boost your GPA and they can help you place out of classes in college.
AP classes are generally carry more weight than regular and even honors classes. If you do well in these classes it can be very good for your GPA. A better GPA can help you get into a better school Colleges also really like to see that students have challenged themselves in high school. The AP class workload will also help you prepare for the work you will face in college.
At the completion of an AP course there is an AP Exam. These tests are scored on a scale of 1-5. If you do well on a test, (usually by scoring a 4 or higher) you may be eligible to place our of a similar college course requirement. For example, many liberal arts schools have a first-year English literature requirement. However, if you take AP English and do well on the test you might be excused from taking the college class.
Now I am not a huge fan of high school student killing themselves to get ahead, but if you think you can handle an AP class it is a great idea!

It is definitely worth trying to clear an AP exam. With all the prep courses that are available online, it’s become a lot easier. Shmoop too, offers prep classes which are really affordable and take you through comprehensive preparation. A friend of mine is taking their prep course in AP English Language. She enjoys it and feels confident about her progress.
AP classes are hard, of course there college level classes so dont expect to sit and chill. I am currently a junior in high school and im taking AP cslculus. I think its great because my teacher actually cares and is ALWAYS there to help me and i know that wont be there in college. So take advantage of it(:
I think APs are helpful because you get the credit for a college course, (if you pay attention and do well on the exam)but you have the ability to ask your teacher questions whenever you need to and you don’t have the added pressure of paying for your dorm, food, and just all around first year of college stress.
if you fail the exam isnt just pointless
if you fail the ap exam isn’t just pointless
My school doesn’t really offer many AP Classes. I took one when I was a Sophomore but none since then. But I have taken a few Dual Credit Classes which are about the same thing except I don’t get a weighted grade but it really has helped me prepare for college. Especially a foreign language dual credit that I sit through hating the whole time, but the difficulty I know will pay off soon when I can get my foreign language credit out of the way before I even get to college. So I think you should take as many Ap or dual credit classes as you can. They help a ton and are sometimes just as easy as normal classes, honest. =)
My English teacher (yes, for AP English) says that a 3 is a passing grade for most universities, 4 is a passing grade for even more, and 5 is a passing grade for all universities that use the AP system. She also says that in some schools, a 5 can get you out of more classes (say, 2 instead of 1), than a 3 can.
I have taken 4 AP classes, 2 last year and 2 currently. I feel as though I am extremely ready for any college course. I took AP Biology, AP English Language and Comp. and am currently taking AP Spanish language and AP English Literature and Composition.
AP classes are a great idea and very helpful in preparing students for college.
I have had at least one AP class a year and four my senior year. I have benefitted greatly from these classes.
AP made learning more interesting!!! I loved it!!!
what is the benefit of being in ap classes?
My computer sci 2 teacher just made me realize that AP and GT classes is basically a college class. It made me realize that you are responsible for your work, not your teachers. its is devastatingly harder than any one can imagine.
AP classes will aid to your credit hours/classes at college. Yes, they are important and you must pass the exam to recieve credit for the class.
I was told that if I take the AP Calculus test and attend Madison University in Wisconsin that I would most likely get a B as a highest grade for the class. Is that true?
I have just recently began taking AP classes my junior year in highschool. I am now a senior in highschool and I too have found that it is a great experience. At first I was nervous about taking college course classes while still in highschool, but you really benefit by doing so.
I just started taking AP classes this year and I have rele enjoyed it! I was worry at first because i was affraid with all my after school activities that i would struggle but I have done really well and my teacher has been great!
Well, the benefits of taking AP classes are helps boost your GPA and colleges look for very challenging classes that you may have taken. Also AP classes can help prepare you for college. Most of the AP classes are actually college prep classes.
AP classes are wonderful. Even if the school you are going to does not accept the AP credit for your major, you can still use it for electives. In short, taking the Advanced Placement exams gives you an opportunity to earn college credit cheaper and sooner. It’s worth a shot.
I haven’t taken a lot of AP cpourses, but the ones I have taken were amazing. I’m in the IB program and that’s why I haven’t taken many AP.
I am taking two a.p. courses this semester.
AP classes are great if you can take the challenge
ya ap is tough but its soooo worth it in the end, even if you dont pass the ap exam, it still prepares you so much more than just a regular class
I will be taking 3 AP courses next year and am hoping this will save money in the long run on college.
