Happy Friday everyone! I bet you thought you weren’t going to hear from me this week! Today I want to talk about a subject that affects both high school juniors and high school seniors: AP classes.
High school has become extremely competitive and more students are taking on college level Advanced Placement (AP) classes. What is the point of these classes you ask? Well AP classes have two major benefits; they can boost your GPA and they can help you place out of classes in college.
AP classes are generally carry more weight than regular and even honors classes. If you do well in these classes it can be very good for your GPA. A better GPA can help you get into a better school Colleges also really like to see that students have challenged themselves in high school. The AP class workload will also help you prepare for the work you will face in college.
At the completion of an AP course there is an AP Exam. These tests are scored on a scale of 1-5. If you do well on a test, (usually by scoring a 4 or higher) you may be eligible to place our of a similar college course requirement. For example, many liberal arts schools have a first-year English literature requirement. However, if you take AP English and do well on the test you might be excused from taking the college class.
Now I am not a huge fan of high school student killing themselves to get ahead, but if you think you can handle an AP class it is a great idea!

Advanced placement classes helps to prepare you for college coursework and will challenge those who feel that regular or honors courses are somewhat easy.
I’ve been taking a lot of rigorous AP classes during my middle school year up until my high school year now. i feel that these classes will benifit me later on in collge. These classes also help my to challenge myself and to think outside the box.
I haven’t read many of these comments, but our school has AP classes. No matter if we take or not it doesn’t mess with our rankings in our class. What’s the big deal in taking one then?
I am currently taking AP European History, AP Psychology, and AP Statistics. They are the most interesting and challenging course I have taken throughout my entire high school career. I highly recommend them to underclassmen. They help your GPA, look really good on your college applications, and guaranteed you will learn more in them than any other class!
Although the AP classes I’m taking are very challenging, it’s very motivational to know I’m earning college credit and getting prepared for the next big step: attending college!
I took AP US History and scored a 2 on the test.
hey im thinking about ap spanish should i do it or should i CLEP instead?
hey im thinking about ap spanish should i do it or should i try to CLEP instead?
I love taking AP classes. Even if I don’t receive 4′s and 5′s on the exams, I’m happy that I challenged myself. AP classes are more interesting and demanding than other classes. For me, the work is well worth it.
I have taken a lot of different AP classes and they are very nice. They teachers teach like they expect you to know things unlike normal classes where the teacher seems to be teaching to the dumbest person
It is harder since it is a college class, but once you get to college, your load will be lighter if you pass that AP class. You might even be able to graduate sooner.
Don’t get me wrong, I take AP classes to learn, but I also take them because the kids in these classes usually are so much more well behaved and everyone is trying their hardest. Also many AP students do extra-curricular activities. It’s good to know that I’m not the only student who want to learn and play sports and do theater and be in band. AP classes are hard but they are worth it.
AP classes are challenging, but once u take the AP exam its like taking a breath once again. They help you a lot and get you ready for college its a very nice experience especially if taken with friends. For those not enrolled i trully recomend taking one try them out youll have fun!!!
What about IB?
As a junior in high school I took AP psychology. It was one of the best decisions I made as far as what class to take. It expanded my interest in psychology and I am now looking into it as a possible major in college.
I think that AP Classes are very beneficial to students who are ready to take on such a work load. It especially has helped me along my senior year realizing that college will be more set like the AP classes I have taken. The AP Exam is only one test over the whole year to decide if you really understand the material. I feel there could be other ways to determine exemptions.
I find AP classes move way to quickly for me and I have to drop them.
AP courses true enough are hard, but they really do help you. They are designed to make you think outside of the box and actually use your brain. Everything is not going to always be easy in school, or in life period. While taking these AP courses you find yourself using various methods to figure out a solution to your problem and thats good because when you enter the real world thats excatly what you are going to have to do to survive.
Taking AP classes really gets your ready for college. When I took AP English classes, I read books that i ended up reading again in college and it really helped me out, and it was basically a review session for me.
I have been taking AP classes since my sophmore year, and they really have boosted up GPA. As a senior i have all AP classes and 2 college classes aside from school, its a great way to get ahead and get in a routine of college. Preparation is KEY!
i think that apart from giving you some a little collage credit that AP classes do not make you any smarter or any more intelligent
How many hours are given per passing credit: 3,4,5
I am a high school senior and this is the first time ive taken an ap class and its getting me prepared for college. it makes all my other classes seem like a piece of cake. taking ap classes should be recommended to everyone.
I think AP classes are wonderful. I take an AP class myself and I enjoy it more than my other classes because the maturity level is very high. I must admit it is a little challenging but it is really worth it. When you get into college you’ll be ahead of yourself!!
During highshcool I have taken advanced, standard, and AP courses. It’s not that it’s hard, it’s just how determined you are to take the time out and do the work.
