03.05.09 | Scholarships Come In All Shapes And Sizes
If I was to play a word association game with aspiring college students and gave them the word “expensive” they’d probably bark out “college” immediately with disdain in their voice. The cost of education is quite staggering, but there is some money to be had out there for monetarily challenged college students.
Now when I say “free” you say “scholarships!” Say it loud and say it proud my friends. S-C-H-O-L-A-R-S-H-I-P-S!!!
Did you know you can get a scholarship by being a New England Patriots fan? The Patriots sponsor a Write On contest for Massachusetts residents. All you need to do is write between 500-750 words about the Patriots most recent game during the regular season. And yes, I realize the football season is still several months away but it’s never too early to think football.
If your last name is Zolp and you’re a student at Loyola University Chicago, your name is worth a whole lot as a Catholic priest named Rev. William Zolp, who worked there in the 70’s, gave Loyola money for an endowed scholarship with the strict criteria that it be made available to any catholic student with the last name Zolp.
The list of unique scholarships is practically endless too. There are scholarships for left-handed students, Star Trek fans, surfers, those who are tall, twins, marble shooters, and even children of Tupperware dealers. Bizarre I know.
